The Finnish Immigration Service ( Migri) on Wednesday resumed the processing of asylum applications from Iranian citizens, said Migri in a press release.
Earlier in February this year, the Migri suspended decision-making on some international protection applications submitted by Iranian nationals due to the changed security situation in Iran.
“We have reassessed the security situation in the country and will now resume decision-making on all international protection applications submitted by Iranian nationals,” said the Migri in the press release, adding that the decision-making resumed on 1 July.
Decision-making had previously been suspended for applications that required additional information on how the security situation in Iran would develop before a decision could be made.
As there is now sufficient information about the situation in the country, the decision-making process can be continued for all applications, said Migri.
The authority also aims to make decisions on applications as soon as possible and will prioritise the processing of applications submitted earlier than other applications.
If the applicants receive a positive decision for international protection, they will be granted refugee status or subsidiary protection or a residence permit on other grounds.
