The Espoo City on Monday urged the people to be refrained from swimming at Laaksolahti beach due to appearance of very high levels of blue-green algae in the water, said the City in a press release.
The very high levels of blue-green algae were first observed at the beach on Sunday and the authority in a notice issued on Monday said that swimming is not recommended until further notice.
Blue-green algae may cause symptoms such as nausea and irritation of the eyes, nose, or lungs.
The blue-green algae situation at the beach is being monitored by Espoo Region Environmental Health Services and the next update in this regard will be provided on Wednesday.
