A man downed in a lake while trying to save his child at Salmi outdoor recreation area in Vihti, a municipality under Uusimaa region late Wednesday night, police said on Friday.
The incident took place at about 8:00 p.m. when the child accidentally fell into the water of the lake.
The man tried to rescue his child from the lake but himself drowned into the water.
Bystanders spotted the child in the water and brought to the shore safely.
But the father of the child remained in the water.
Responding to an alarm, rescue service people rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the father from the lake.
The police, however, did not divulge the detail identity of the deceased.
The Western Uusimaa Police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the death.
