Man drowns in Salo, 1 killed in road mishap in Raseborg

A man drowned in Salo while another person was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Raseborg on Sunday, police said in separate press releases.

Police said that a man drowned after falling into the water at Märynummi beach in Salo, a municipality in Southwestern Finland early Sunday night.

The incident took place at about 2:00 a.m. when the man with foreign origin was playing with a child at the beach.

Responding to an alarm from the bystanders, police and rescue service people rushed to the spot and recovered the man from the water but he died on the spot.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between two private cars in Raseborg, a municipality under Uusimaa region in the afternoon.

The accident took place on highway 25 in between Tammisaari and Karjaa at about 12:40 p.m. when a private car was suddenly driven into the opposite lane and collided with another incoming car from opposite direction.

There were four people onboard in the two cars and one of them died on the spot in the accident while two were injured critically.

The wounded people were taken to hospital.

Police, however, did not divulge the identities of the victims of the drowning incident and the car collision.

The Accident Investigation Board and police are investigating into the incidents to find out more information.
