
Two people were killed and two others injured in a road accident in Virrat, a municipality under Pirkanmaa region on Friday, police said.
The accident took place at about 11:10 a.m. when a private car collided head-on with a garbage laden truck on Liedenpohjantie road.
Driver of the car and a passenger sitting in the front seat died on the spot while two other passengers sitting in the back seats of the car were injured critically in the accident.
The injured people were taken to the Tampere University Hospital (TAYS) by a helicopter.
There were two people in the truck but they remained unhurt in the accident.
Police, however, did not divulge the details identities of the deceased and the injured persons.
According to the preliminary information, the car suddenly entered the wrong lane due to unknown reason resulting the collision with the truck coming from the opposite direction at the speed of 100 kilometres per hour.
The speed limit of the road is 100 kilometres per hour.
Police are investigating into the case as aggravated endangerment of road safety and manslaughter and at the preliminary stage suspected the car driver of the accident.
The Accident Investigation Board and police are investigating into the incidents to find out the circumstances surrounding the accident and get more information in this regard.
