An elderly woman was killed when a man attacked her with sharp weapon in front of Kontula metro station in Helsinki on Saturday, police said.
The incident took place at about 11:23 a.m. when the victim in her 80s sustained severe wounds in the knife attack and succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
Responding to an alarm police and rescue service people rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the victim.
The attacker, a man of 50 years old, however, fled away after the stabbing.
Police conducted extensive search at the area and arrested the suspect immediately.
Police, however, did not divulge details about the incident and the identities of the deceased and the suspect at the initial stage of the investigation.
They said that the victim and the attacker were not known to each other.
They are investigating into the case as murder.
