Rydman survives motion of no-confidence over STEA funding

Minister of Social Affairs and Health Wille Rydman on Tuesday survived a no confidence motion brought against hm in the parliament by opposition Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) over the new criteria for granting STEA funding to social and healthcare organisations.

Rydman of the radical rightist Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) survived the motion by 88 votes to 74 with 11 lawmakers remaining abstain and 26 were absent.

The motion also showed clear disagreement among the allies of the four-party government as lawmakers of Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP), a component of the alliance remained abstain.

The RKP leaders said that the minister proposed the new criteria for granting STEA funding before it was agreed within the government.

Sosiaali- ja terveysjärjestöjen avustuskeskus (STEA), known as the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations, provides grants to non-profit organisations operating in the social and healthcare sectors.

The parliament on Monday held a debate on the no-confidence motion brought by Vasemmistoliitto lawmaker Aino-Kaisa Pekonen and held vote on Tuesday.
