Finland summons Israeli envoy over shots near diplomatic tour, Gaza situation

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland on Thursday summoned the Israeli ambassador over Israel Defense Forces' shots near a diplomatic tour in the West Bank on Wednesday, said the ministry.

The ministry asked for an explanation from the Israeli envoy regarding the IDF's use of fire, said the ministry in a post on its social media platform X.

“We also expressed deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza,” the ministry added.

Earlier, Israel Defense Forces said that the tour group deviated from its approved route and soldiers fired warning shots.

As Israel escalates its military operation in the Gaza Strip, a growing number of European countries are voicing strong criticism and calling for concrete consequences.

Britain, France and Canada said on Monday that "if Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid," they will take further concrete actions.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced on Tuesday that Britain has suspended trade negotiations with Israel over its Gaza blockade.
