Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and her Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha on Tuesday held a telephone conversation and discussed various issues including the recent incidents of drones that have strayed into Finnish territory.
Valtonen said that Finland’s territorial integrity must be ensured in all circumstances, according to a social media post of the Finnish Foreign Minister.
“We discussed Ukraine’s peace efforts and its defensive actions against Russia, as well as Ukraine’s dialogue with the Gulf countries. I also raised the issue of drones that have strayed into Finnish territory. Finland’s territorial integrity must be ensured in all circumstances,” Valtonen wrote in a post on her social media platform X after the conversation.
Sybiha reiterated Ukraine´s position regarding recent drone-related incidents and reaffirmed readiness to work closely together and develop practical solutions to prevent such situations in the future.
“I had a great call with my Finnish colleague Elina Valtonen. Our main focus was on shared security challenges. I reiterated our position regarding recent drone-related incidents and reaffirmed our readiness to work closely together and develop practical solutions to prevent such situations in the future,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister wrote in a post on his social media platform X.
He also appreciated Finland’s understanding that the root cause of these threats is Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s actions are focused on military and infrastructure targets on Russian territory in order to reduce its warfighting capacity — which is in our common interest,” Sybiha added.
Two drones crashed in Kouvola in southeastern Finland after entering into Finnish airspace in the morning on March 29.
One more Ukrainian drone was found in Finland on March 31, 2026.
The Ukrainian authorities apologised to Finland for the drones’ crashes.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said that the authorities do not completely exclude the possibility that, in addition to the unmanned aerial vehicles already found in Finland, several other such aircraft might have ended up in the country.
The Finnish Defence Forces intensified surveillance measures to ensure territorial integrity when Ukraine carried out attacks against Russian targets in the eastern Gulf of Finland.
