Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Monday visited Lebanon and met the Finnish peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the minister wrote in her social media.
“Today I had the honor of visiting the UNIFIL operation and meeting Finnish peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. Finland pledges its full support for UNIFIL’s efforts to promote stability in the region. We had very good discussions with the UNIFIL Force Commander and the peacekeepers, and I want to thank every peacekeeper serving in the operation,” Valtonen wrote in her social media platform X.
Approximately 200 Finnish peacekeepers are currently serving in UNIFIL, according to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Earlier this month, Finnish peacekeepers serving in UNIFIL came under a gun attack in southern Lebanon.
Earlier in March this year, a Finnish peacekeeper serving in the UNIFIL was injured in an explosion.
