
A man sustained bullet wounds when police fired gunshot at him after he attacked a police officer with a knife in Kalajoki, a municipality under Northern Ostrobothnia region early Saturday morning, police said in a press release.
The incident took place in an apartment when a squad of police rushed to the spot responding to an alarm regarding domestic disturbance.
A middle-aged man equipped with a knife attacked one of the police officers prompting the law enforcers to use firearm.
"Police had to use a firearm to make the arrest,” said police in the press release.
Both the man and police officer sustained serious wounds and were taken to hospital, local media reported, adding that their conditions were not life-threatening.
Police, however, did not divulge detail information about the incident at the preliminary stage of the investigation.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in investigating into the case.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office is investigating into the incident of using firearm by police.
