The Eastern Uusimaa Police dismissed an officer of the department for taking bribe, said police in a statement on Friday.
The authority terminated the long serving senior sergeant following a court verdict, which convicted the officer of taking bribe and sentenced to a suspended imprisonment.
The Eastern Uusimaa District Court awarded the punishment to the police officer on September 16 as the allegations brought against him were proved beyond doubt.
The court in the verdict said that the police officer accepted a gift that was intended to influence his official duties.
He took “gift” from a woman in connection with a criminal case of her son and the woman later lodged bribery case against the police officer, local media reported.
The police authority, however, did not divulge detail about the case and the identity of the police officer.
In the statement the authority said that the officer demonstrated completely inappropriate, untrustworthiness and crossed the limit, which is not acceptable.
He lost public trust to perform in police department and also lost confidence of both the authority and his colleagues, the statement added.
Earlier in September this year, another officer of Helsinki police has been dismissed on charge of raping a woman in the interrogation cell.
