
The police on Saturday sought pre-trial detention of a crew member of the cargo vessel Fitburg over the suspected damage of telecommunications cable in the Gulf of Finland, said police in a press release.
The crew member, an Azerbaijani national, who was earlier arrested together with another Russian crew member.
The Russian national has been subjected to a travel ban as of 3 January 3, 2026.
Earlier, police imposed travel ban on two crew members of the cargo vessel.
The vessel has a total of 14 crew members on board, and currently, a travel ban has been imposed on three of them.
Earlier on January 2, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has setup a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) with Estonia to probe into the suspected damage of telecommunications cable in the Gulf of Finland on December 31, 2025.
Earlier on January 1, the police arrested two individuals of the cargo vessel Fitburg and imposed travel ban on two other persons.
