
A knife-wielding man was injured when police fired gunshot at him in a residence at Länsimäki area in Vantaa on Friday evening, Police said in a press release.
The incident took place when the man equipped with a sharp weapon was moving in the stairwell of a house.
Responding to an alarm police rushed to the spot and asked the man to surrender the knife, but he did not pay heed to the order.
At certain stage a police officer fired gun shot at the man and he sustained bullet wounds.
He was taken to hospital after giving first aid and police said that his condition was not life threatening.
Police, however, did not divulge the identity of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office is investigating into the incident of using firearms by police.
