Secretary General of Parliament suspected of sedition

The Secretary-General of the Finnish Parliament, Antti Pelttari, also a former Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo) is suspected of treason and official misconduct, local media reported, quoting official sources.

Pelttari is suspected of disclosing secrets of the state when he was working as the top official of the Supo, reported national broadcaster Yle.

The lead investigator, special prosecutor Tarmo Tanner, however, refused to disclose further information to Yle in this regard at this stage of the investigation.

The news was first published by a leading Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.

Earlier on Thursday, Speaker of Parliament Jussi Halla-aho at a press conference said that Pelttari was under investigation for suspected official misconduct while working as director of the Supo.

He said that the Parliament will interrogate Pelttari on June 5 before taking any measure against him.

Pelttari in a post on his social media platform X, however, denied the allegation brought against him.

Pelttari was appointed as the Secretary-General of Parliament in late 2023 and took over the charge at the beginning of 2024.
