
President Alexander Stubb together with Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany and discussed various bilateral and international issues.
“We had a good discussion on the bilateral relations between Finland and the US and the broader transatlantic relationship,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X after the meeting.
They also discussed Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, said the President.
“We have to continue to put pressure on Russia in order to achieve a sustainable peace,” he added in the post.
Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen termed the discussion with Rubio important on advancing shared transatlantic interests in security, technology and trade.
“It was a pleasure to meet my U.S. colleague, Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Munich together with Alexander Stubb and Antti Häkkänen. It is important to continue our constructive discussions on advancing shared transatlantic interests in security, technology and trade,” Valtonen wrote in a post on her X.
She also wrote that that Europe remains firmly committed to strengthening its defence and to supporting Ukraine.
“Ending Russia’s war of aggression is our shared objective. We appreciate the United States’ efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace,” the Foreign Minister added.
President Alexander Stubb joined the Munich Security Conference (MSC) where is participating in various events on Friday and Saturday.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen and Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen are also attending the Security Conference in Munich together with the President.
