Two people have drowned when a rowing boat capsized in Haapajärvi lake at Nurmes, a municipality under North Karelia region early Saturday morning, police said.
The accident took place at about 5:30 a.m. when a group of five people were going to an island cottage amidst strong windy weather.
At certain stage, the overloaded aluminium boat with the capacity of four people capsized and sank into the water.
Although three people swam to the shore, one drowned while the rest one went missing.
Rescue service people recovered the body of the downed person but failed to rescue the rest one despite extensive search.
Police believed that the missing person also might have been drowned.
All the passengers of the boat are adults and were under the influence of alcohol, said police, adding that none of them was wearing life vests,
The deceased is a man born in the 60s and the missing person is also a man born in the 70s.
Police, however, did not divulge the detail identities of them.
