
Three people were killed in separate road accidents, one person was burnt to death in a house fire and one drowned at different parts in the country on Friday and Saturday, said police in separate press releases.
One person was killed and seven others were injured when three cars collided on the Helsinki-Turku highway at Paimio, a municipality in Southwest Finland on Saturday morning.
The accident took place at about 8:30 a.m. when a car coming from wrong side collided with two cars bound for Turku.
Police in its initial report said that the injuries were not life-threating and all of them were taken to hospital but later one of them succumbed to the wounds.
Police arrested one person on various charges including suspected aggravated manslaughter, aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and aggravated drunk driving after the accidents.
Meanwhile, a pedestrian was killed in a road accident in Pori, a municipality under Satakunta region early Saturday night.
The accident took place at about 1:00 a.m. when a private car knocked down the pedestrian on Helsingintie road near the airport.
Police, however, did not disclose detail about the accident and the identity of the deceased.
Meanwhile, a cyclist was killed in a collision between a car and a bicycle in Konnevesi, a municipality in Western Finland on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred at about 2:20 p.m. on Jokirannantie road.
Police, however, did divulge the identities of the victims in the accidents.
The Accident Investigation Board and police are investigating into the incidents to find out the circumstances surrounding the accidents and get more information.
Meanwhile, a man was burnt to death in a fire broke out in a detached house at Merikarvia, a municipality under Satakunta region early Friday night.
The fire occurred at about 3:10 a.m. at Harvalantie area and engulfed the house immediately.
Responding to an alarm, rescue service personnel and police rushed to the spot but found that the house was destroyed completely by this time.
They also recovered body of a 31-year-old man, resident of the house from the debris.
The origin of the fire could not be known.
Rescue service people and police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the fire and the death.
Meanwhile, a man drowned in a lake in Mikkeli, a municipality under South Savo region on Friday afternoon.
The man went for fishing in Lake Kyyjärvi on Thursday evening but did not return.
His boat was found floating near the shore.
Responding to an alarm rescue service people and police rushed to spot and conducted extensive search in the lake and recovered his body from the water.
Police, however, did not disclose the identity of the deceased.
Police are investigating into the incident but did not suspect any crime link to the death at the preliminary stage of the investigation.
