Six people including three children have drowned and one child was missing in separate incidents at different parts of the country on Friday, police said.
Three children went missing in the sea when they were playing on the beach at Kalajoki, a municipality under Northern Ostrobothnia region on Friday evening.
Police, and Coastguard, quoting eyewitnesses said that the incident took place when the children were playing with Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boards on the beach.
At certain stage strong wind blew them to the sea and they sank in the water about 100 meters away from the beach.
They also screamed seeking help but became disappeared in the water immediately.
Responding an alarm, Rescue Service people, police and coast guards rushed to the spot and recovered bodies of two children while the rest one remained missing.
Both the deceased were 16 years old while the missing boy was 17.
They conducted search for the third child till 10:00 p.m. but failed to rescue the child.
The search, however, was suspended later for Friday.
Meanwhile, a man of about 20 years old has drowned at Kivenlahti beach in Espoo on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place at about 5:30 p.m. when he jumped into the water.
People present at the scene informed the emergency services and Rescue Service people recovered the body after conducting a search for about one and a half hours, said police.
In another incident, a 10-year-old child drowned in water near Pajulahti beach in Lahti, a municipality under Päijät-Häme region on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred when the child together with friends was playing there. Suddenly the friends noticed that the child was not seen for about 20 minutes but the belongings of the child were there.
Responding to an alarm, Rescue Service people rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the child from the water.
Meanwhile, an elderly woman has drowned when she went for swimming at Iso-Vekuna Island in Pälkäne, a municipality under Pirkanmaa region on Friday afternoon.
Police did not disclose detail about the incident.
Later Rescue Service people covered her body from the water.
Another elderly man has drowned when he went for swimming at Vonka Beach in Hyrynsalmi, a municipality under Kainuu region late Friday night.
The incident took place at about 8:00 p.m. and people present at the beach informed the emergency service.
Rescue Service people rushed to the spot and found the body near the beach later.
Police, however, did not divulge the detail identities of the victims of drownings.
Police, did not suspect any crime link to any of the deaths in the incidents of drownings.
