The opposition parties have decided to bring a no-confidence motion in the parliament against the four-party alliance government led by conservative Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) over the deepening poverty and rising living cost in the country.
Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) and Vihreä liitto (Finnish Green League) decided to submit the no-confidence motion after Easter while the main opposition the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) has been involved in preparing the motion and will take final decision in this regard later, said the Vasemmistoliitto in a press release on Tuesday.
Referring to a recent report of the Finnish Federation for Social Affairs and Health (Soste) Vasemmistoliitto Chair Minja Koskela said that the government failed to reduce the poverty and marginalisation in the country.
"According to a recent report by Soste, almost a million Finns are already at risk of poverty and social exclusion. The poverty crisis has been exacerbated particularly by the right-wing government's deep cuts to social security," Koskela said in the press release.
She said that the economy of the country under the government led by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Finance Minister Riikka Purra was not growing while the unemployment and homelessness are increasing and at the same time bread lines are getting longer.
Koskela said that the Orpo and Purra government is throwing the country into a very poor shape.
“That is why we demand that the government either act now to alleviate the poverty crisis, or give space to more capable forces,” the Vasemmistoliitto Chair added.
