The national social insurance institution- Kela on Wednesday released its maternity box for 2025 containing 38 items, said Kela in a press release.
The number of items in this year´s box is one lower than the number in the previous maternity box and same as the number of 2023.
The baby box released in 2022 contained 43 items, the box released in 2021 contained 50 items, the box released in 2020 contained 56 items and the baby box for 2019 had 63 items.
Kela, however, said that it took customers feedback into consideration and revised the contents of the new maternity package by introducing more durable products that can be used longer.
Distribution of the new package will begin once stocks of the 2024 edition have run out.
Kela estimated that the older version of the package will be ended in late July or early August.
“Every year, we ask customers to vote on the pattern of the sleeping bag and snowsuit included in the maternity package. This year, the package also includes products with features requested by our customers. For example, now even the smaller wrap-around bodysuits come with an extender, which means that they grow with the baby,” said Coordinator Veera Petäjä.
Kela received feedback requesting for a blanket in the maternity package, and the 2025 edition included with a blanket.
The purchase value of the maternity package is EUR 170. It has remained unchanged since 2018.
However, the number of products included in the maternity package has decreased as the prices of products have increased over the past seven years, said Kela.
It said that now many families with children have difficulties with their finances and the maternity package contains many daily essentials for the baby.
In October 2024, Kela suspended the procurement of products for the 2026 maternity package following the decline in the birth rate.
