A man was burnt to death in a suspected arson attack at a residence in Kuopio, a municipality under North Savo region in between late Monday and early Tuesday nights, police said in a press release.
The fire broke out at the house at Linnanpelto area and engulfed it immediately.
Responding to an alarm, rescue service personnel and police rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
They recovered a man, who born in 1970s with severe burn wounds from the debris and took him to hospital in a critical condition. He succumbed to his wounds there.
Police suspected that the fire was set deliberately and arrested a man born in the 1980s from Kuopio train station in this connection immediately after the incident.
Police, however, did not divulge the detail identities of the deceased and the suspect but said that they knew each other.
The reason behind the arson attack could not be known at the initial stage of the investigation. Police are investigating into the case as murder and aggravated vandalism.
