Protest against Israeli genocide in Gaza continues in Helsinki

Health for Palestine Finland, an organisation of the heath professionals in Finland has been organizing a demonstration at the Meilahti Hospital Campus in Helsinki protesting against the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

A silent human chain was formed from 12:00 noon to 13:00 pm on Thursday as a part of the daily one-hour protest began on Tuesday and will continue until Friday, the organisers said in a press release.

Health for Palestine Finland is holding the protest expressing solidarity with the global initiative called “Doctors Against Genocide”.

The demonstrations are also supported by Palestinian Community in Finland, Sumud Finland and the Extinction Rebellion groups Sotekapina and Elopsykologit.

The demonstrators said that they are holding the protest to motivate and encourage their colleagues in healthcare sector to speak up and act to protest the Gaza siege and Palestinian genocide.

“We have chosen Meilahti Hospital Campus as our location due to it's incomparable visibility and prestige in the Finnish healthcare scene. Our goal is to increase the visibility of the Palestinian cause, actively resist Palestinian genocide and bring the siege on Gaza with its rapidly worsening humanitarian catastrophe into the everyday awareness of healthcare personnel in Finland,” said Heidi Stenman of Health for Palestine Finland.

Pointing out the violence and inhuman situation in Gaza, the demonstrators expressed profound shock over the brutal attacks by Israel on the innocent people, particularly children and women.

Focusing the food blockade, they demanded that Israel must lift its blockade and allow immediate safe, and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid and assistance, in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles.

Terming the situation as high time, the protesters also urged the Finnish authority to define the ongoing Israeli killings as genocide and take stern measures to defend the civilians.

The demonstrators also demanded to impose an arms embargo and suspend all trade and investment relations with Israel.
