Finland reviews draft peace plan to end Ukraine war

The President and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy on Friday discussed efforts to bring an end to Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, said the President Office in a press release.

The committee at a meeting also received an overview of the proposals for ending the war that have recently come to light through public sources.

Finland is assessing the situation in close cooperation with its allies and Ukraine and will continue its efforts to end the war in a way that is just and sustainable.

Matters concerning Ukraine are for Ukraine to decide, and decisions about Europe cannot be made without Europe’s involvement, the committee observed.

U.S. President Donald Trump has approved a 28-point plan for peace between Russia and Ukraine that U.S. officials developed in consultation with Russian and Ukrainian officials, reported Xinhua, quoting NBC News on Wednesday.

It proposes to hand over those areas of Ukraine's industrial eastern Donbas region still under Ukrainian control to the de facto control of Vladimir Putin's Russia, international media reported.

It also calls for Ukraine to cut the size of its armed forces to 600,000 people.
