Finns see record highest life expectancy last year

The life expectancy of newborn boys was 79.6 years and that of girls 84.8 years in Finland in 2024, according to Statistics Finland.

The figures are the highest in the measuring history.

Compared to 2023, the life expectancy of boys grew by 0.7 years and that of girls by 0.6 years.

Life expectancy is an age-standardised indicator that describes the level of mortality observed during the calculation period.

Compared to the previous year, the life expectancies of persons aged 65 grew, by 0.5 years for both men and women.

Life expectancies of newborns were longest in Åland and shortest for men in Kainuu and for women in Lapland in the period 2022 to 2024.

The difference between genders in life expectancy in 2022 to 2024 was biggest in Kainuu, 6.3 years, and smallest in Central Ostrobothnia, 3.4 years.
