Govt survives motion of no-confidence over high unemployment rate

The four-party alliance right-wing government led by Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) on Friday survived a no-confidence motion brought against it in the parliament by two opposition parties over the high unemployment rate in the country.

The government won the motion by 92 votes to 71 with 36 lawmakers remaining absent.

Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party of Finland) and Liike Nyt (Movement Now) filed the interpellation on October 3 asking the government to explain the reasons behind the increasing number of unemployment rate in the country and government measures in this regard.

Leaders of the opposition parties held the government responsible for its failure to tackle the record unemployment rate in the country during its regime.

The unemployment rate in Finland climbed above 10 percent in September, the highest since 2009, according to Statistics Finland.

The opposition parties accused the government of not sensing the consequence of the situation in the job market.

The government replied to the interpellation in the plenary session on October 15 and the Parliament on Friday held vote on the motion after holding debate on the matter.
